I went to Malang, the cool city in East java Indonesia, on 5 to 8 April 2012. I visited the tourism object which is popular in Malang, named Jawa Timur Park 2 (Jatim Park 2 for short). This is the tourism complex which consists of three buildings, the zoo, the hotel, and the museum.  All of the building designs are uniquely designed and very interesting. The first building is the zoo. This zoo is named “Batu Secrete Zoo”. This is the zoo with Modern building design which are very different from the usual zoo, more interesting, more complete and will satisfy your animal knowledge. The second building is the tree hotel called “pohon inn”, which is designed like a tree with roots. and the third is the building of animal museum. These pictures are about the building design of animal museum in Malang. The unique thing of the design of this animal museum building  is that this building seems to be  inspired by the ancient architectural design of Greek, with elegant big  pillars in front of the building. The other interesting and unique things of the building are two big statutes of elephant on the front sides of the building. These elephant statues interest many people who visit this building. The interior design of the building is also designed in such a way that the visitors feel comfortable to enjoy watching the collections of the animal museum. This is an amazing building design. If you go to Indonesia, don’t forget to drop in this place an you will find a lot of sensation.

Unique Dome House

Since 2006, we can see the dome houses in the area called Ngelepen, which belongs to the village called Sumberharjo, the district of Prambanan, the province of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. These dome houses which are round in hape are the donation from the World Association of Non-governmental Organization (WANGO) and Domes for the World Foundation (DFTW) for earthquake victims in whose houses were destroyed by the earthquake on May 27, 2006.

In addition to the unique shape, the dome house also has many advantages. One of them is that the Dome house is resistant of earthquake. Because, in the structure of the dome house has no corners and junctions which are very prone to cause wreckage when hit by an earthquake. Since there is no connection at dome home, which is the weak point of the building when it is rocked by an earthquake, the dome house constitutes the house which is resistant for earthquake. According to the architect, the dome house is also able to withstand the wind of 450 km / h, and is durable for centuries.

Dome homes are designed around a semicircle. The building is made using the mold (airform) shaped like a balloon and the upper part be filled with cement concrete. The Burden on the wall of the dome house is also shared equally on each side of the foundation. The foundation is not very deep: only about 20 cm, so the foundation is not easily broken.

In addition, The steel webbing is installed in the middle of the floor to make the dome house safe when earthquake. In the box home, when an earthquake happens the walls will attract each other and the connections can be broken to cause the walls and the roof collapses.

The shape of dome house is much different from The house owned by Indonesian people. The dome house is like the igloo house, owned by Eskimo tribes. The unusual shapes of these house make people interested in visiting this village to see the dome houses. Now this village becomes the tourism destination which is popular in Yogyakarta.

Joglo is the name of traditonal home design in Central Java, Indonesia. The characteristic of  Joglo home design is the main building design which consists of four main pillars called Soko Guru and the intercropping in the form of beams placed on the Soko Guru. It means that the four main pillars called Soko Guru support the intercropping of beams on them. The interior design of joglo home design consists of three parts of the rooms. the front part is the room called Pendapa, the meeting room; the midle part is the room called Pringgitan, the room to hold a puppet show; and the back part is called Dalem or Omah Jero, the family room which also consists of three rooms (berooms) namely the left room, central room, and the right room. the description of the three spaces namely Pendopo (The front space), Pringgitan (the midle space), and Dalem (the back space) is as follows:

1. Pendopo
Pendopo is located in the front part of Joglo house design. It is an open space which has no walls. This is related to the Javanese philosophy which is always friendly, open and does not opt ??in welcoming guests. In general There are no chairs in pendopo. There is a mat instead of the furniture. The guests who come is welcomed on the mat, so that the guests and the hosts have equality. The friendly situation is reflected by the conversation on the mat.

2. Pringgitan
The word pringgitan is derived from the ringgit which means puppet. This is the space between pendhapa and the dalem as a place for a puppet show, which is associated with ritual performances for children called “ruawatan”, to release the children from being eaten by the giant god calld “Betara kala”.

3. Dalem
Dalem which is at the back part of the Joglo house design is the main room of the house. This is the private room for the hosts. This room contains a fimily room and several rooms. In the past there were only three rooms besides the family room in dalem. The first room is the bedroom for men, the second room in the middle is the bedroom which is empty, This is the room for the first night for the newlyweds, this is interpreted as an event of cosmic union of the god called Kamajaya and the goddess called Kama Ratih. Both are the god and goddess of love. but it is complete with bed furniture. and the third is the bedroom for women.

The arrangement and decoration of the bedroom such as the selection of paint colors and furniture are made as comfortable as possible. The kinds of furniture that are used among others are beds, dressers, wardrobes and sofas. The types of furniture are tailored to the needs of the owner of the room. We need not place the bathtub if we do not use it often; we can place shower instead of the bathroom because the space is limited. If we want to place the bathtub, we choose the small one so that the use of the space can be maximized.

2. To create the spacious impression of the small bathroom, we can place the large mirror on the wall of the bathroom. Mirror can add the dimension of the space. Mirror can also help distribute the light into every corner of the bathroom. This is the most convenient and widely used. Mirror can create the illusion to make the small room to be more spacious and roomy.

3. Color choices are very important to make the small bathroom look spacious. Don’t use the dark color because the dark color make the bathroom narrow. Choose the pale colors to be applied in decorating the small bathroom design.
